Admission Process Comparison
Not all CUET-accepting universities follow the same admission process. Understanding the differences is crucial for your application strategy:
| Process Type | Universities | How It Works |
|---|---|---|
| CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) | Delhi University (all colleges) | Centralised counselling via CSAS portal. Fill preferences for colleges + programmes. Automated allotment based on CUET score + preference order. Multiple rounds. |
| Individual University Portal | BHU, UoH, AU, PU, JNU, AMU, and most central universities | Apply separately on each university’s admission portal after CUET results. University-specific merit lists. Need to track multiple deadlines. |
| CUET + University Test | TISS, some JNU programmes | CUET score used for shortlisting. Additional university-conducted test (written/GD/PI) for final selection. Dual preparation required. |
| Direct Admission on CUET Score | Most private universities | Submit CUET score directly. No additional test or counselling. Fastest admission process — often with early-bird fee discounts. |

Frequently Asked Questions
How many universities accept CUET UG scores?
As of 2026, 295+ universities accept CUET UG scores — 47 Central, 42 State, 35 Deemed, and 171 Private Universities. The number grows each year as more institutions join the CUET framework.
Do I need to apply separately to each university?
For most universities, yes. Delhi University uses a centralised CSAS system, but BHU, JNU, UoH, AU, PU, and others require separate applications on their individual portals after CUET results. Track all deadlines carefully — missing a portal deadline means losing your chance at that university regardless of your CUET score.
Can I apply to multiple universities with the same CUET score?
Yes, absolutely. There is no limit on the number of universities you can apply to with your CUET score. We recommend applying to at least 5–8 universities across different tiers (dream, target, safety) to maximise your chances.
Which CUET sections should I definitely take?
At minimum, take: (1) English — required by almost every university, (2) General Test — required for Arts, Commerce, and Management at most central universities, (3) Two Domain Subjects relevant to your target courses. This combination covers 90% of programmes at 295+ universities.
Are private university admissions through CUET worth it?
Private universities accepting CUET offer an alternative for students who miss central/state university cutoffs. However, fees are significantly higher (Rs 1–5 lakh/year vs Rs 5,000–25,000 at central universities). Prioritise central universities first and use private universities as safety options.
What if my CUET score is below 500?
Scores below 500 still open doors at several state universities, newer central universities (like Central University of Kerala, Sikkim, etc.), and private universities. You can also consider re-attempting CUET the following year while taking a gap year to strengthen preparation.
Is CUET score valid for more than one year?
No. CUET scores are valid only for the admission cycle of that year. If you want to apply in 2027, you must re-appear for CUET UG 2027.
