JNU Admission via CUET 2026 — Courses, Cutoffs & Process

Complete guide to Jawaharlal Nehru University admission through CUET UG 2026. Known for social sciences, languages, and international studies — everything you need to know about JNU’s undergraduate programmes.

About Jawaharlal Nehru University

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), established in 1969, is ranked #3 among universities in the NIRF 2025 rankings. Located on a lush 1,000-acre campus in South Delhi near the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, JNU is globally recognised for its academic rigour, vibrant intellectual culture, and strong emphasis on social sciences, languages, and interdisciplinary studies.

JNU has historically been known as a postgraduate and research-focused university. However, it now offers several undergraduate programmes through CUET, making it accessible to students right after Class 12. The university’s undergraduate offerings are relatively limited compared to DU or BHU, but they are highly specialised and deeply academic.

JNU’s standout feature is its deeply subsidised education — tuition fees are among the lowest in India, and hostels with mess facilities are available at nominal costs. The campus is known for its democratic and debate-driven culture, extensive library resources, and a strong alumni presence in academia, media, civil services, and international organisations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does JNU offer regular BA/B.Sc like DU?

JNU’s undergraduate offerings are more specialised and limited compared to DU. JNU focuses on integrated programmes (BA-MA, B.Sc-M.Sc) and foreign language degrees. It does not offer a generic “BA Programme” like DU.

Is JNU only for postgraduate students?

Historically, JNU was primarily a PG and research university. However, it now offers several undergraduate programmes through CUET, especially in languages and integrated sciences. The UG student population is growing every year.

What is the cost of studying at JNU?

JNU is one of the most affordable universities in India. Tuition for most programmes is ₹200–500 per semester. Hostel accommodation costs ₹10–20/day, and mess food is available at ₹50–80/day. Total annual cost can be as low as ₹30,000–50,000 including accommodation and food.

Are JNU language programmes worth it?

Absolutely. JNU’s 5-year integrated language programmes are the gold standard in India. Graduates are recruited by embassies, international organisations (UN, WHO), MNCs, translation agencies, and foreign affairs ministries. Japanese and Korean graduates often receive placement offers of ₹8–15 LPA.

Can I apply to both DU and JNU simultaneously?

Yes. Your CUET score is valid for all participating universities. You can apply to DU (via CSAS), JNU (via jnuee.jnu.ac.in), BHU, AMU, Jamia, and any other CUET-accepting university simultaneously. There is no restriction on the number of universities.

Does JNU have hostel facilities for UG students?

Yes. JNU provides on-campus hostel accommodation to most students, including UG students. The hostels are well-maintained with WiFi, common rooms, and mess facilities. Hostel allotment is done during the admission process based on availability.
