MANOJ SINHA LAUNCHED ‘SAATH INITIATIVE’ FOR WOMEN
- In Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has launched a Rural Enterprises Acceleration Programme titled ‘Saath’ for Self Help Group (SHG) women.
- The programme aims to transform the lives of women and make them independent and strong in social and financial aspects, by mentoring the women associated with SHGs and creates market linkages of products created by these women.
- Jammu and Kashmir already has 48000 SHGs, with around four lakh women connected to these SHGs.
- The J&K administration further aims to create 11000 more SHGs in the coming year. This will transform the lives of these women and make them independent and strong in social and financial aspects.
- Aim of the programme: Saath is aimed at accelerating the livelihoods of rural women, associated with SHGs and which are doing small works.
- There is not much profit in their work and there is a lack of knowledge about marketing, packaging and branding. This initiative aims to teach women such skills and convert their businesses into Higher Order Enterprises.

INDIAN ARMY WILL PARTICIPATE IN ZAPAD EXERCISE 2021
- Indian Army will participate in Exercise ZAPAD 2021, a Multi Nation exercise being held at Nizhniy in Russia from 3-16 September.
- ZAPAD 2021 is one of the theatre level exercises of the Russian Armed Forces and will focus primarily on operations against terrorists.
- Over a dozen countries from the Eurasian and South Asian Regions will participate in this signature event.
- About the exercise:.The exercise aims to enhance military and strategic ties amongst the participating nations while they plan and execute this exercise.
- The Indian contingent has been put through a strenuous training schedule that encompasses all facets of conventional operations including mechanised, airborne and heliborne, counter-terrorism, combat conditioning and firing.
- In all, 17 countries are participating in ZAPAD including Mongolia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Russia, India and Belarus.
- Pakistan, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka are observers at the exercises.

UAE, URUGUAY & BANGLADESH AS NEW MEMBER OF NDB
- The Shanghai-based New Development Bank (NDB) has approved the United Arab Emirates, Uruguay and Bangladesh as its new member countries.
- In 2020, the NDB Board of Governors initiated the negotiation to expand its membership. As a result UAE, Uruguay and Bangladesh have been admitted as the first new member countries of the NDB.
- NDB was established by the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) countries in 2015.
- The bank supports public or private projects through loans, guarantees, equity participation and other financial instruments.

LADAKH DECLARED NEW STATE ANIMAL & BIRD
- The Union Territory of Ladakh has declared snow leopard (Panther unica) as the new state animal and black-necked crane (Grus nicricollis) as the new state bird.
- The notification in this regard was released by Shri Radha Krishna Mathur, Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory of Ladakh on August 31, 2021.
- The decision was taken keeping in view bifurcation of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh into separate administrative divisions in 2019.
- In the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, the black-necked crane and Kashmir stag (Hangul) were the state bird and animal respectively.

SMRITI IRANI INAUGURATED NUTRI GARDEN
- The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani inaugurated NUTRI GARDEN to mark the beginning of Poshan Maah – 2021 at All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA). Plantation of Shigru (Sahijan) and Amla saplings were also carried out.
- AIIA, New Delhi under the direction of the Ministry of Ayush initiated the celebration of Poshan Maah – 2021.
- About the Nutri Gardens: Nutri kitchen garden/Nutri garden is a method of planting and harvesting nutrient-rich crops in residential houses or in their vicinity to meet the requirements of the family all year round.
- In urban areas, Nutri kitchen gardening can be promoted in the form of rooftop gardening, terrace gardening, vertical gardening and container gardening.
- In rural areas, Nutri kitchen gardens can be promoted in the backyard of the houses.
What are the benefits of Nutri Garden?
- It increases the availability of food and nutrient sources. It can act as a source of supplementary income. The crops harvested are Fresh and Safe (chemical-free).

PRESIDENT PRESENTS NATIONAL TEACHERS’ AWARD 2021
- National Teachers’ Award 2021 was awarded by President Ram Nath Kovind, September 5, 2021. President Kovind gave the awards to 44 finest teachers in the country for their dedicated contribution.
- The award is contributed to those who improve the quality of education for students and also inspire, enrich their lives.
- This year, the Ministry of Education released the name of 44 teachers, who would be conferred the National Teachers’ Award. Out of the total 44 teachers, 9 of the awardees are women.
- Due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, President Kovind addressed the teachers virtually. While highlighting the role and importance of teachers in one’s life, President Kovind expressed his gratitude to all the teachers who received the awards.
- The award was also bestowed upon Pramod Kumar Shukla of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Chhattisgarh.
- It is the second award in a row for an EMRS established under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

MANISH NARWAL WINS GOLD AT TOKYO PARALYMPICS
- Indian shooters Manish Narwal and Singhraj Adhana clinched the gold and silver medal respectively in the P4 – Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 final at Asaka Shooting Range.
- The 19-year-old Manish created the Paralympic record as he amassed 218.2 points to clinch the gold while Singhraj grabbed his second medal of the Tokyo Paralympics with 216.7 points.
- The Russian Paralympic Committee’s (RPC) Sergey Malyshev won the bronze medal.
- India’s medal tally now stands at 15 at these Paralympics.
- It has now won three golds, seven silvers and five bronze medals. This is India’s best tally at a single edition of the Para Games. It had won four medals at Rio 2016 and four at the 1984 Paralympics.

RAJIV GANDHI’S NAME REMOVED FROM ORANG NATIONAL PARK
- The Assam cabinet has decided to remove the name of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi from the Orang National Park.
- Since the name of Orang is associated with the sentiments of the Adivasi and tea-tribe community, the cabinet has decided to rename the Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park as Orang National Park.
- Located on the North Bank of Brahmaputra, Orang National Park spread over 78.80 sq km is the oldest forest reserve in the state.
- It was named a wildlife sanctuary in 1985 and declared a national park in 1999.

PANKAJ KUMAR SINGH TAKE CHARGE AS NEW DG OF BSF
- Pankaj Kumar Singh, a 1988-batch IPS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, has taken charge as the new Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF).
- Prior to this, he was serving as the special DG at the BSF headquarters in Delhi.
- The 58-year-old Pankaj Singh replaces IPS officer and Indo-Tibetan Border Police Director General (DG) SS Deswal who was holding the additional charge of BSF DG since July 2021.
- Apart from this, Sanjay Arora, a 1988-batch IPS officers from Tamil Nadu cadre, has taken over as the new DG of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP).

SBI OPENED FLOATING ATM ON DAL LAKE IN SRINAGAR
- State Bank of India has opened a floating ATM on a Houseboat at Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar for the convenience of locals and tourists.
- The floating ATM was inaugurated by SBI Chairman Dinesh Khare. This is not the first time that SBI has launched a floating ATM as back in 2004, the bank took this initiative in Kerala.
- The SBI installed a floating ATM at Jhankar yacht, which operates between Ernakulum and Vaypeyan region, owned by Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation (KSINC).
- The SBI’s floating ATM was commissioned by Ashok K., Deputy Managing Director of Mumbai Corporate Center, launched by Kinney.
- The State Bank of India is the nation’s largest commercial bank, in terms of assets, deposits, customers, branches and employees. The bank has the largest network of 22,224 branches and 63,906 ATM / CDM in India with 71,705 BC outlets.
