ASEAN-India summit ASEAN-India summit[/caption] Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Myanmarese capital Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday to attend the ASEAN and the East Asia summits on the first leg of his three- nation tour that will also take him to Australia and Fiji. Along with Indias Act East Policy, some more issues that are likely to be discussed at the ASEAN-India summit meeting is the review of an ambitious connectivity project to develop a 3,200-km highway linking India, Myanmar and Thailand that was originally envisaged to be completed by end-2017, and is now expected to be completed in 2018. India and the 10-nation ASEAN bloc hope to dovetail the connectivity plans with this highway project. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a political and economic organisation of ten countries located in Southeast Asia, which was formed on 8 August 1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Since then, membership has expanded to include Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar (Burma) and Vietnam. Its aims include accelerating economic growth, social progress, socio cultural evolution among its members, protection of regional peace and stability, and opportunities for member countries to discuss differences peacefully. India is not a member country of ASEAN.
